YWAM, Discipleship Training School Course Description The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is an intensive Christian training course beginning with an 11 or 12 week lecture/teaching phase followed by an 8-12 week practical field assignment. It is an exciting time to set aside to learn more about who God is, who we are as believers and how He wants to partner with us to see the nations impacted and reached for His kingdom. The Discipleship Training School in Australia is part of the University of the Nations (UofN), the training centre for Youth With A Mission (YWAM), and the Institute for the Nations (IforN) Australia. It is the entry course for any further studies with the UofN or for further staffing with any YWAM centre worldwide. You will receive 19-24 credits for the DTS with the UofN. If you are an Australian student, you are also eligible to Austudy/Abstudy if studying within Australia. 
Lecture Phase
The DTS is designed to encourage students in personal character development, cultivating a living relationship with God and identifying their unique individual gifts and callings in God. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphasis throughout the course, preparing the students to reach current and future generations and answer the call to "go into all the world and disciple all nations" Matthew 28:19. Outreach Phase For the second phase of the DTS, specially organized teams are sent out typically for 12 weeks (minimum eight) of evangelism in cross-cultural situations. The emphasis is on the application of principles taught in the DTS lecture phase coupled with teaching on evangelism concepts and practices to equip students to share their faith using a variety of means. Special assignments are given during this course. A student's educational learning process is significantly accelerated and deepened, as they further experience the integration of "learning and doing" in the field assignment in keeping with the foundational truth of the Bible. Our outreach methods involve performing and creative arts, such as dramas, dance, singing, testimonies, and other creative methods. At Island Breeze Australia, we encourage each student to express their God-given talents and gifts and to help the student be further equipped in their place of ministry. Topics Covered in DTS In the DTS we learn about many different topics. We have speakers coming in both from YWAM and from the community. We encourage students to use the Bible as the source for their faith and belief. The following topics will be covered in the DTS: Encounter God – includes topics such as Hearing the Voice of God, Character and Nature of God, Worship and Prayer and Intercession and How to Study and Understand the Bible See life from God's perspective – Destiny and Purpose in Christ, Biblical World View and Identity in Christ Recognise Jesus as Lord - Spiritual Warfare, Fear of God and Holiness Become more like Jesus - Father Heart of God, Relationships, Holy Spirit, Faith and Finances and Laying Down Your Rights Do the works of Jesus – The Poor and the Needy, Missions and Evangelism Orientate to YWAM – insight into YWAM, opportunities and the history and vision of YWAM The Discipleship Training School Also Includes the Following Activities | "I've loved – absolutely loved – learning to read the Truth in the Word and being challenged to let God reveal Himself to me personally rather than letting others before me do all the hard work. This includes tuition, food and accommodation, some recreation and transport. Note: it does not include travel to and from Island Breeze Sydney, visa into Australia or health insurance for your time in Australia Outreach Phase varies between AUD $3500 and AUD $4500 This covers airfares to outreach, transport during outreach, visa, insurance, food and accommodation. CostsThe cost for the DTS lecture phase is different for different countries. The costs are as follows: Category "A" countries, such as Western Europe, North America and Australia and New Zealand - $4000 Category "B" countries, such as Eastern Europe, South America and South Africa - $2900 Category "C" countries, such as Zimbabwe, Philippines, Vanuatu and Paraguay - $2700 If you are not sure which category you fit in, feel free to contact the Registrar This covers food, accommodation and tuition while you are here with us. On top of these fees you will need to cover your visa fees, insurance for Australia and transport to Sydney from where you live.
Testimony "Before coming to Island Breeze Sydney, my life was upside down and inside out. I had no purpose. I was going through each day purposelessly. I was on everything bad under the sun, drinking everyday without fail, smoking weed everyday, taking and selling drugs, partying every night and working in the pub. I always knew God was there, the only thing was I couldn't approach Him, and the drug life had control over me. Part of me coming here was to get closer to Jesus, get off the drugs and start fresh. I had a plan. However, Jesus had His plan, and that is the only one to follow for it is the best. I am so thankful for the support I have received from staff, students and friends here at Island Breeze. The first 2 weeks here were the hardest, my body de-toxing, trying to return to normal sleeping patterns, feeling lost, out of place, lonely, loss of identity, but God has been there every step of the way, making me stronger as I put my faith and trust in Him. Praising God with my heart and my soul is an achievement for me, lifting my hands in praise for His name, PRAYING, is something I couldn't do, especially out aloud. I am finding who I am in Christ, and the journey is not all roses, but I am getting there slowly. I know I have a purpose now. I love Jesus. I want to share His love with those who don't know Him and praise God – I am not ashamed to say I love Jesus! If He can take me from the life I had – girls, parties, drinking, drugs, fighting – then why not anybody else! I am not perfect, I still I have my weaknesses, but being a Christian is a daily walk. God is still working with me, and I am loving it.
